So, You want to be a Forester!!!!
The Division of Forestry is always in need of foresters. A degree in Forestry from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in a forest technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters OR a Bachelor of Science Degree in a forest management program accredited by the Society of American Foresters is required.
In addition, applicants must be licensed or eligible to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in West Virginia. A current license as a registered professional forester or forestry technician OR obtain professional licensure upon employment with the Division of Forestry is another requirement. Applicants must meet the qualifications for and become a special conservation officer at the earliest opportunity following employment and maintain this commission throughout the period of employment in the position.
Foresters are covered under a civil service system administered by the WV Division of Personnel (DOP). Applications must be submitted to DOP at the address specified on the application form. There is no examination required as the college transcript serves as proof of qualification. DOP will score applications based on qualifications including experience. Names will then be placed on a register of eligible candidates.
Once a vacancy has been posted, DOP sends the division of forestry a register for that particular job title and county. The DOF then contacts those on the list to see if they are interested and if so, makes contact to set up interviews.
